Background
Coconut chutney is a popular south Indian condiment or side dish, mainly prepared as a side for breakfast dishes like idli, dosa or vada. The condiment is made with coconut pulp ground with other ingredients such as tamarind, green chillies and coriander.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Fresh coconut grated
- 3 Green chillies
- Small ball sized tamarind
- ½ tsp Salt
- ¼ cup Water
- * For tempering: *
- 2 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- ½ tsp Split black gram
- 2 Red chilli
- Few curry leaves
Instructions
- In a blender, add 1 cup coconut, 3 green chilli, small ball sized tamarind and ½ tsp salt.
- Add in ¼ cup water or as required.
- Blend to smooth paste, add more water if required but make sure the chutney is not runny.
- For tempering , add 2 tsp oil, 1 tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp split black gram, 2 dried red chilli and curry leaves. Fry for a minute until they splutter.
- Pour the tempering over the coconut mixture. Mix well.
- Serve as side to dosa or idli or vada.
