Background
It is called double ka meeta or shahi Tukda. This indian sweet bread is rich with flavours of ghee and dry fruits. It is a special dessert made for special occasions or ideal for a party at home.
Ingredients
- Β½ loaf of bread cut into slices
- 500 ml milk
- 3-4 drops of lime
- Ghee (clarified butter) for deep frying
- 1 cup mixed nuts (cashew, pista, almonds) and raisins)
- 4 cardamoms crushed
- 300g sugar
- 300 ml water
- 1 pinch of saffron
Instructions
- Slice the bread (thickness can vary). The older the bread, the better it is for this recipe.
- Deep fry the slices in ghee (clarified butter) and set aside.
- For the sugar syrup boil the sugar, water, lime drops and saffron in a pan until it thickens.
- Soak the fried bread pieces in the syrup for a few seconds, then set aside in the serving dish.
- Heat the milk in a separate pan until it is reduced to 1/4 of its original volume.
- Sprinkle the nuts over the fried bread then pour over the milk.
- Serve warm.
