Background

It is called double ka meeta or shahi Tukda. This indian sweet bread is rich with flavours of ghee and dry fruits. It is a special dessert made for special occasions or ideal for a party at home.

Ingredients

½ loaf of bread cut into slices
500 ml milk
3-4 drops of lime
Ghee (clarified butter) for deep frying
1 cup mixed nuts (cashew, pista, almonds) and raisins)
4 cardamoms crushed
300g sugar
300 ml water
1 pinch of saffron

Instructions

Slice the bread (thickness can vary). The older the bread, the better it is for this recipe.
Deep fry the slices in ghee (clarified butter) and set aside.
For the sugar syrup boil the sugar, water, lime drops and saffron in a pan until it thickens.
Soak the fried bread pieces in the syrup for a few seconds, then set aside in the serving dish.
Heat the milk in a separate pan until it is reduced to 1/4 of its original volume.
Sprinkle the nuts over the fried bread then pour over the milk.
Serve warm.
