Moroccan spiced lamb steaks
Background
These Moroccan spiced lamb steaks are perfect all year round – at Summer BBQ parties, at Easter gettogethers or for laid-back family meals. Serve it with couscous or pilaf - I served it with wheatberry salad and baked sweet potatoes. You can spice them up by adding a pinch of cayenne or chili powder/flakes to the spice mixture.
Ingredients
- 4 lamb steaks (leg or shoulder)
- 1 tsp Ras El Hanout spice mix
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp ground coriander
- 1 generous pinch of cinnamon
- 1 generous pinch of turmeric or small pinch of saffron
- 1 tsp grated garlic or ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp ground pepper
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- juice of ½ lemon
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Mix the spices in a bowl then rub the steaks with it.
- Mix the oil and lemon juice and drizzle over the steaks. Massage them well, then out them in a glass dish and chill for at least a couple of hours, preferably overnight.
- Heat your BBQ, grill or griddle pan.
- Season the steaks with salt and pepper then fry/grill them for 3-5 minutes on each side, turning them a couple of times.
- When the steaks are cooked to your liking, transfer them to a plate and rest for a couple of minutes before serving with your chosen side dishes.
