The perennial favourite is a deep fried sweet ball, the filling of which is prepared from Bengal gram, jaggery or sugar and cardamom powder.
Ingredients
- Β½ cup black gram dal
- 1 cup raw rice
- 1 cup raw rice
- 1 cup grated jaggery
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Soak black gram dal and raw rice for 6 hours.
- Wash and grind them separately to a fine batter and mix them to make dosa batter consistency
- Add a pinch of salt and mix well. Leave aside covered.
- Cook Bengal gram dal with just enough water to cover the dal. Drain any leftover water from the dal after it is cooked.
- Add jaggery to the dal and use masher to mash them together till it blends well.
- Add cardamom powder and mix well. Shape small sized balls.
- Heat enough oil in a wide heavy bottomed vessel for deep frying the balls.
- Dip each ball in the batter and let it coat evenly and place in the oil and deep fry till golden brown and crunchy.
- Serve warm. Just before eating, make a small hole on top and fill it with little ghee or melted butter.
