Background
Tiramisu is one of the world’s most famous desserts, but the traditional recipe often contains too much sugar and fat. If you want to enjoy this Italian classic without the guilt, try this Diet Tiramisu Recipe! Made with low-fat quark and reduced sugar, it’s a lighter option that’s perfect for anyone looking for a healthier alternative.
Tips for the Perfect Diet Tiramisu
- You can replace Tia Maria with any coffee liqueur.
- To make your own chocolate-covered coffee beans, dip coffee beans in melted dark chocolate and let them set.
- You can find diet sponge cake in health food stores, or bake your own using whole wheat flour for an even healthier option.
- This light tiramisu is an ideal dessert for summer gatherings or any time you crave something delicious yet waistline-friendly.
Ingredients
- 200g (7 oz) diet sponge cake
- 1 Tbsp instant coffee
- 2 Tbsps Tia Maria (or other coffee liqueur)
- 500g (17 oz) low-fat quark (or cottage cheese)
- 2 Tbsps brown cane sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Tbsps good-quality cocoa powder
- Decoration: about 20 chocolate-covered coffee beans (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the sponge cake into long strips and line the bottom of a deep glass dish with half of them.
- In a small bowl, dissolve the coffee in 2 Tbsps of hot water. Once cooled, stir in the coffee liqueur, then drizzle half the mixture over the sponge in the dish.
- In another bowl, mix the quark, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Spread half of this mixture over the coffee-soaked sponge and smooth the surface with a spatula.
- Place the remaining sponge strips on top, drizzle with the rest of the coffee mixture, and spread the remaining quark cream evenly over it. Use the back of a spoon to create soft swirls on the surface.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours so for the flavours to blend.
- Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and decorate with chocolate-covered coffee beans, if desired.
