Background
Garam masala is an Indian spice blend used in many vegetarian and non-vegetarian curries and biryanis. The ingredients are roasted and then ground into powder. This spice blend is very important ingredient of Indian cooking and is easy to make.
Ingredients
- ½ cup coriander seeds
- ¼ cup cumin seeds
- 2 Tbsp green cardamoms
- 3 black cardamoms
- 2 Tbsp cloves
- 1 Tbsp pepper corns
- 7 pieces cinnamon
- 4 medium dried bay leaves
- 1 small nutmeg
- 1 star anise
- 2 strands mace
- 1 tsp fennel
Instructions
- Dry roast all the spices one after the other. Transfer to a plate and set it aside to completely cool the ingredients.
- Add all the spices to a blender and ground them to fine powder.
- Store the spice blend in a dry airtight container.
