Background

Prawn curry with coconut milk is a gravy based masala curry made using shrimp in south Indian style. This is a quick and easy recipe that best pairs with any fragrant rice and/or chapathis.

Ingredients

300 gms prawns
1 large onion chopped
1 cup coconut milk
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
2 pinches turmeric
1 tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp coriander powder
½ tsp garam masala
¼ tsp cumin powder
2 Tbsp oil
Salt to taste
1 spring curry leaves
Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

Devein and wash the prawns. Set aside.
Add 1 Tbsp oil to a pan and fry till transparent. Add ginger garlic paste and fry till the raw smell disappears.
Add salt, turmeric, red chilli, coriander, cumin, garam masala powders and fry well for 5 minutes. Cool and blend to a smooth paste.
Add another Tbsp of oil to the pan and add curry leaves and the prawns, fry for 5 minutes.
Pour the ground mixture and add coconut milk and cook till the prawns are cooked.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with rice or chapathi.
