Background

These savoury diamond cuts were our favourite snacks in childhood. These are easy to prepare and will be a hit as a treat or accompaniment with tea. They are really popular with kids.

Ingredients

1½ cup Plain flour (or ½ cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup plain flour)
1½ Tbsp Sesame seeds
¼ Tbsp Cumin seeds
1 tsp Red chilli pwd
1 Tbsp Melted butter
Salt as required
Oil for deep frying
Water enough to knead

Instructions

Mix together plain flour, salt, red chilli powder, butter, sesame seeds and cumin seeds and knead to a smooth dough.
Take a lemon sized ball from the dough and roll it out into a thick roti. Prick the roti with a fork and cut this roti with a knife lengthwise about an inch apart. Then, cut into 2 inch squares.
Heat the oil for deep frying and drop the plain flour squares and let them fry until they rise to the surface on high flame.
Reduce the flame to medium and fry them on all sides until light brown and crispy.
After they are ready drain them on to a paper towel and store them in an airtight container.
