Background
Venna undalu is a traditional recipe in south Indian homes normally prepared during the Krishna Jayanthi festival. This recipe also makes a great evening snack item as it is very simple to make with very few ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp butter
- ¼ cup rice flour
- A pinch baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Take a bowl, add all-purpose flour, rice flour, salt and baking soda and mix them well.
- Add melted butter and water to make a soft dough and cover with wet cloth and leave aside for an hour.
- Make small balls out of this dough and leave them in a plate.
- Heat oil in a wide pan and put these balls in the oil slowly and fry on a low flame till they turn golden brown.
- Repeat the process till the dough is done.
- Transfer the balls to kitchen towel to absorb the extra oil.
- Let them cool and store them in an airtight container.
- Serve them with evening tea.
