Background
Cabbage pappu (lentils) is a very popular south Indian dish.This is a nutritious dish as it is protein rich and cabbage is rich in calcium. This goes well with rice and ghee.
Ingredients
- 4 cups Chopped Cabbage
- 3 Tbsp Split red gram
- 4 Green Chillies (slit and cut)
- 4-5 Clove of garlic (cut in halves)
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2-3 cups of water
- For tempering:
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- ½ tsp Split black gram
- 2 Red Chilli
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- 3 tsp Oil
Instructions
- Take a vessel and on medium heat add oil, mustard seeds, split black gram. Fry until mustard seeds sputter.
- Add garlic cloves , red chillies and curry leaves. Fry for a minute.
- Add 2 cups of water, green chillies and red gram. cover and Cook until the lentils are almost cooked.
- Add the cabbage, turmeric powder and salt. Cover and cook the cabbage and lentils until done. If required add 1 cup of water and cook.
- Serve hot with Rice and ghee.
