Ingredients: 1 kg Chicken (Preferably with the bone); 2 Onions (Cut in circles); 1 cup Onion paste; 1½ Tbsp Grated garlic; 1 Tbsp Grated ginger; 1 Green Chilli (Chopped); 2 Tbsp Oil; 1 Tbsp Ghee (Clarified butter); 1 tsp Sugar; Salt as required; ½ cup Cashew and poppy seed paste (6-7 cashews & 1Tbsp poppy seeds with water); 1½ cup Plain yogurt; Whole Garam Masala (Bay leaf (2), Red chillies (2), Cardamom (5), Cinammon sticks (2), Cloves (4) and peppercorns (5) ); Water as required

Background

This recipe is from the state of Bengal. It is famous in Pakistan and Bangladesh too. My neighbour is a Bengali and I first tasted this dish when she made it. I really liked it. It turned out really good and everybody in my family loves it.

Ingredients

1 kg Chicken (Preferably with the bone)
2 Onions (Cut in circles)
1 cup Onion paste
1½ Tbsp Grated garlic
1 Tbsp Grated ginger
1 Green Chilli (Chopped)
2 Tbsp Oil
1 Tbsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
1 tsp Sugar
Salt as required
½ cup Cashew and poppy seed paste (6-7 cashews & 1Tbsp poppy seeds with water)
1½ cup Plain yogurt
Whole Garam Masala (Bay leaf (2), Red chillies (2), Cardamom (5), Cinammon sticks (2), Cloves (4) and peppercorns (5) )
Water as required

Instructions

Marinate chicken with oil, grated ginger, grated garlic, chopped green chilli, onion paste and salt for one hour in refrigerator.
Heat ghee in a pan and add the whole garam masala.
After a minute, add the marinated chicken. Cook the chicken for about 10 min.
Beat together sugar, salt and yogurt, adding little water to it.
Pour the beaten yogurt, onions and cashew and poppy paste into the chicken.
Cook the chicken under lid until the gravy thickens and chicken is cooked fully.
