Background
These savoury diamond cuts were our favourite snacks in childhood. These are easy to prepare and will be a hit as a treat or accompaniment with tea. They are really popular with kids.
Ingredients
- 1½ cup Plain flour (or ½ cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup plain flour)
- 1½ Tbsp Sesame seeds
- ¼ Tbsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Red chilli pwd
- 1 Tbsp Melted butter
- Salt as required
- Oil for deep frying
- Water enough to knead
Instructions
- Mix together plain flour, salt, red chilli powder, butter, sesame seeds and cumin seeds and knead to a smooth dough.
- Take a lemon sized ball from the dough and roll it out into a thick roti. Prick the roti with a fork and cut this roti with a knife lengthwise about an inch apart. Then, cut into 2 inch squares.
- Heat the oil for deep frying and drop the plain flour squares and let them fry until they rise to the surface on high flame.
- Reduce the flame to medium and fry them on all sides until light brown and crispy.
- After they are ready drain them on to a paper towel and store them in an airtight container.
